Elko County, Nevada (pop. 52,000), located in the high-desert environment of the Great Basin, is seeking an accomplished accounting professional with demonstrated supervisory experience to join a dedicated staff in managing the all-important finances of a dynamic county. The Comptroller will report to the Assistant County Manager/CFO and under his administrative direction will oversee the finance, accounting, payroll, and collections functions of the County. Assisting in the management of the County’s $32M general fund and $60M total budget will be of paramount importance. The Comptroller will manage an office of seven total staff members, and the position offers a wide degree of independence and autonomy.
The ideal candidate will have senior-level accounting experience, including auditing work. Governmental accounting experience will be most helpful, but a private background could also be utilized. The County would look favorably on someone seeking to make a longer-term commitment to the community with the potential to advance to CFO in the future. The ideal candidate will possess at least six years of experience in professional accounting, with at least two years being equivalent to a Senior Accountant in public accounting. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required with a Master’s degree preferred and a CPA designation desirable.
